June 22nd - June 26th, 2009

Monday, June 22nd - This is Graduation Day at Three Oaks. At 9 a.m. all graduates are asked to assemble in their classrooms for a walk down to the gym as part of the graduation rehearsal. When everyone is seated in the gym, they will be briefed on a number of details regarding the upcoming evening. All graduates are urged to attend this very important rehearsal.
Following the rehearsal, home room and subject teachers are available in their classrooms to give out grade 12 report cards, transcripts, and exam papers. Graduates are then free for the remainder of the day to prepare themselves for the big night.
Graduation exercises begin at 7 p.m. Graduates are asked to be at the school and in their classrooms by 6 p.m. The following is the program: Processional by the Three Oaks Graduation Ensemble, Invocation, Salutation, Remarks by Principal - Duncan McKillop, Presentation of Diplomas and Awards, Guest Speaker - Emily Schurman, Presentation of Special Awards by Principal - Duncan McKillop, Valedictory by Geoff Kowalski, Recessional. A reception follows in the center of the school for graduates and invited guests.
Graduates have approximately one hour for picture taking, mingling, and getting changed. All SafeGrad participants must be in the 100 block by 11 p.m. to pick up registration pins and assemble in their classrooms for departure to New Glasgow. Graduates are reminded that each classroom represents a bus. When the maximum number is reached for that classroom (bus), the door will be closed
Buses will depart for New Glasgow at approximately 11:30 p.m. and arrive at approximately 12 midnight. The following is the schedule: Midnight to 1 a.m. - Food, snacks, pop. etc. for a very hungry crew upon arrival; 1 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. - Dance and karaoke upstairs and casino downstairs; 4:30 a.m. - departure to Sandspit; 6:30 a.m. - departure back to Three Oaks; 7 a.m. - 8 a.m. - breakfast at Three Oaks cafeteria.
Tuesday, June 23rd - A large portion of our staff attend Safe Grad with our students. They will be home recovering. A small number of staff will be cleaning up from graduation. The office will be open as normal.
Thursday, June 25th - Grade 10 and 11 report cards and exams will be distributed from 9 - 10:15 a.m. Teachers will be available in their classrooms to distribute these to parents and/or students.
Friday, June 26th - This day will be devoted to in-school planning for the new school year beginning in September.

Band Awards
Congratulations to the following band members who received special recognition at the Band Awards banquet held recently. Director’s Choice - Dylan Maddix, Woodwind Award - Kelsy Forrest, Brass Award of Merit - Patricia Brown and Christopher Thompson, Percussion Award - Jarrett Conrad, Outstanding Dedication - Ryan McKenna, Outstanding Soloist - Sarah Chace, Grade 10 Award of Merit - Miranda Muttart, Grade 11 Award of Merit - Jessie Champion, Grade 12 Award of Merit - Jaimee Gillis, Outstanding Section - Senior Flutes, Grade 10 Concert Band Students’ Choice - Rachel MacDonald, Senior Concert Band Students’ Choice - Leanne Gaudet, Jazz Band Students’ Choice - Dylan Maddix, Most Improved - Thomas Trainor, Paige Cameron and Karyn Brown.

Extra Curricular Awards
Congratulations to the following students who received special pins in the outstanding category at an extracurricular awards assembly held recently. Each pin winner represented over 1,000 hours in extracurricular activities during their three years at Three Oaks.
The recipients are: Braeden Brennan, Madeline Campbell, Jaimee Gillis, Shelby Grady, Quentin Heffell, Ashley Howell, Lindsay Kelly, Megan Kennedy, Geoff Kowalski, Dylan Maddix, Emma McQuaid, Emily Murray, Lauren Ryder, Brianne Shea and Katie White.

Athletic Awards Banquet
Student athletes were recognized in their respective sports in categories which included most improved, best rookie, most valuable, coaches choice, etc. Female Athlete of the Year went to Cierra Gaudet, a grade 11 student who competed in soccer, basketball, cross country, badminton and track and field. Male Athlete of the Year went to Pat Thompson, a grade 12 student who competed in badminton, soccer and softball.
The Academic Award was won by Jaimee Gillis. Nancy Sinclair received the Athletic Alumni Award for her long time contribution to the athletic program. Nancy is the Transportation Supervisor for the Three Oaks family of schools.

Thanks Coaches
Three Oaks operates an interscholastic program which involves some 20 teams and approximately 250 athletes. Thanks to the following volunteer coaches who made this happen. Monday, June 15th - End of semester exams continue. All students in block D will write in the morning.
Tuesday, June 16th - End of semester exams continue. Grade 10 and 11 students in block A will write in the morning.
Wednesday, June 17th - End of semester exams continues. Grade 10 and 11 students in block B will write in the morning.
The Graduation Banquet is scheduled for the cafeteria beginning at 6:30 p.m. The dress is semi-formal. The program includes the class prophecy, class video, awards, and a few brief speeches. The banquet is for graduates and teachers only.
Thursday, June 18th - The graduation list will be posted on the main bulletin board near the front entrance.
Friday, June 19th - This day involves final preparations for graduation.
Noteworthy Items:
Our spring sports are now completed. Congratulations to the following teams for their provincial playoff performances: The AAA boys’ rugby team won gold, the A boys rugby team won gold, the AAA girls rugby team won bronze, the boys softball team won bronze, and the senior girls track and field tied with Westisle for gold.

Grads:
Grade 12 students are responsible to view and verify the grad list posted on the bulletin board outside the office to verify the accuracy of their name and how it will be read on graduation night. Students should also check parent’s names.
A transcript sign up sheet is available to indicate where graduates would like to have their transcripts sent for next year. Please check the bursary board for new arrivals regarding possible financial aid for next year.
If you have received a bursary or scholarship offer, please show verification of this award to Student Services. Only offers which have been verified will be announced at graduation. For more details on any of the above or other grad issues, please contact Mr. Donovan in Student Services.
Potential graduates will not be eligible to graduate if the student has not removed incompletes from courses required for graduation or if the student has a failing mark (below 50% on their final report card) in a course required for graduation. Students must meet all graduation requirements and must have incompletes removed by June 15th to be eligible to walk across the stage and graduate on June 22nd.
Grad brick painting will take place following the end of grade 12 exams at the following dates and times: Monday, June 15th, Tuesday, June 16th and Wednesday, June 17th from 12 - 3 p.m., Thursday, June 18th from 9 - 11 a.m. and from 1 - 3 p.m. These are the only dates when painting takes place. There is a minimal charge per brick to cover costs of materials.

June 8th - June 13th, 2009

Monday, June 8th - Day 1 (A-B-C-D) The special in the cafeteria at noon is grilled chicken caesar or spaghetti and garlic bread.
Tuesday, June 9th - Day 2 (B-A-D-C) The special in the cafeteria at noon is club wrap and salad or chicken stirfry.
Wednesday, June 10th - Day 1 (A-B-C-D) This is the first day of exams. All students enrolled in 600 and 800 level courses in block A will write during the morning. Grade 10 and 11 students will continue normal classes.
Thursday, June 11th - Day 2 (B-A-D-C) End of semester exams continue. All students enrolled in 600 and 800 level courses in block B will write during the morning. Grade 10 and 11 students will continue normal classes.
Friday, June 12th - End of semester exams continue. All grades in block C will write during the morning.
Saturday, June 13th - The annual Athletic Awards Banquet is scheduled for the cafeteria. Students, athletes and coaches will congregate to recognize outstanding contributions from each team. Graduating athletes will also be recognized. The evening is highlighted by the presentation of male and female athlete of the year.
