Monday, February 9th - Islander Day, no classes.
Tuesday, February 10th - Day 2 (B-A-D-C) The special in the cafeteria at noon is club wrap and salad or spaghetti.
Afternoon classes will be shortened by a few minutes to allow students to return to their semester 1 classes to pick up their exams. This will happen at the end of the day.
Athena Consolidated is hosting an information night for parents titled "Numbers Night". Bill MacIntyre is the English Math and Science specialist for grades 1 - 6 with the Department of Education. Bill will speak about the important skills and concepts our children need to develop with respect to numbers. Parents will learn how to help our children to be successful at: counting and grouping, learning basic facts and developing mental math skills. The session begins at 7 p.m.
Wednesday, February 11th - Day 1 (A-B-C-D) The special in the cafeteria at noon is fries with the works.
In sports, the #2 girls’ and #2 boys’ basketball teams host Kensington. Game times are 5:30 and 7:30 p.m.
Thursday, February 12th - Day 2 (B-A-D-C) The special in the cafeteria at noon is turkey dinner or macaroni casserole.
The Family Place family resource centre, will host lunch and learn sessions for the pregnant and parenting students in the school. They are invited to join Lori Clarke each Thursday as she’ll share lunch and information on topics such as; pre-natal care, labour, delivery, and parenting. The group meets each Thursday in the Three Oaks conference room at noon.
Friday, February 13th - Day 1 (A-B-C-D) The special in the cafeteria at noon is bacon cheeseburger and fries.
In sports, the #2 boys’ basketball team travels to Bluefield to participate in a two day tournament.

Parents are reminded that report cards were handed out this week in home rooms. If you haven’t seen an end of semester report, you should ask.
The P.E.I. Scholastic Chess Championship is scheduled for Sunday, March 1st at Colonel Gray High School in Charlottetown. This is open to all island students from grades 1 - 12. Players will compete only against others in the same grade. Prizes are awarded for the top 3 in each grade. The winner in each grade qualifies for the National championship which takes place in Toronto on May 17th and 18th. For more information, contact tournament director, Fred McKim at 894-8713.
Congratulations to Kyle Baillie who travelled to Ottawa recently to the Terry Fox Centre as part of the Encounters with Canada Program. Encounters with Canada is an annual exchange involving students and teachers from across Canada. Conferences, workshops, and exterior visits are creatively designed for the interactive program. The theme for Kyle’s visit was Fitness.
The Tourism Industry Association of P.E.I. (TIAPEI) in partnership with Holland College will host the 2009 Tourism Employment Showcase at the Tourism and Culinary Centre in Charlottetown. This takes place on Thursday, February 19th from 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. The showcase provides employers with the opportunity to recruit, interview, and hire all under one roof.
TIAPEI will also partner with East Prince Youth Development to host the Summerside Job Fair to be held at the Credit Union Place on Thursday, April 2nd from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. This will be another opportunity for students to meet with potential employers.
It is time for grade 12 students to start thinking about the next school year. A transcript sign up sheet is available to indicate where graduates would like their transcripts sent for next year’s studies. Please check the bursary board for new arrivals regarding financial aid for next year. For more details on this or other grad issues, contact Mr. Donovan in Student Services.
