Monday, September 28th - Day 1 of the schedule. In sports, the Women’s and Men’s AAA volleyball teams will host Montague at 5:30. The AAA Men’s and Women’s Soccer teams will host Bluefield at 5:30.

Wednesday, September 30th - Day 1 of the schedule. In sports, the A Women’s volleyball team will play at Francois Buote at 5:30. At home, the Women’s Field Hockey team and the Men’s AAA soccer team will host Montague at 4:30.
Thursday, October 1st - Day 2 of the schedule.
The Family Place family resource centre, will host lunch and learn sessions for the pregnant and parenting students in the school. They are invited to join Lori Clarke each Thursday when she’ll share lunch and information on topics such as pre-natal care, labour, delivery, and parenting. The group meets each Thursday in the Three Oaks conference room during the lunch break.

Three Oaks is proud to be sending six student delegates to the Canadian Student Leadership Conference (CSLC) 2009 in Olds, Alberta Sept. 29-Oct. 4. Stuart MacLean, Heather Baglole, Paige Camreon, Travis Gordon, Lyndon Bryanton, and Bethany Wright will be participating in leadership workshops, attending keynote speaker sessions, and collecting all kinds of great ideas to implement back at TOSH. We wish them well as they "Lead the Stampede!" This year’s Student Council Magazine Campaign will begin October 8th and run through to October 26th. We would like to thank those in the community who have supported our campaign in the past and encourage them to continue to do so. The Magazine Campaign helps to fund many student activities at TOSH. To support this year’s campaign, you may order or renew subscriptions through Three Oaks students or through the QSP link accessible on the Three Oaks website.

The following is the program: Parents are asked to arrive between 6:00 and 6:20 pm to pick up student schedules and SAS login codes. Parent meetings will begin at 6:30 pm at the following locations: parents of grade 10 students will meet in the cafeteria, parents of grade 11 students will meet in the Lecture Theatre and parents of grade 12 students will meet in the gymnasium.Individual classroom sessions will begin at 6:55 pm. Subject teachers will be available in their classrooms for 10 minute sessions. Parents can locate teachers by reading their schedules. Schedules contain the student’s subjects and the block and location for each subject (Block A-B-C-D). Monday, September 14th - Day 1 (A-B-C-D) of the schedule.
In order to kick off "Welcome Back Week" at TOSH, the Student Council has a number of exciting activities planned. Monday will be "Light up TOSH" day. Students are asked to show their school spirit by wearing their brightest clothes. At lunch students will have the opportunity to attend our annual Club Fair and check out all TOSH has to offer for extra-curricular groups and activities. There will be a BBQ outside at lunch and hot dogs will be on sale for .50 cents a piece. Student photos will be taken throughout the day. These photos are taken for yearbook and Student I.D. purposes. Students are not obligated to purchase their photos; however, individual packages are available.
Tuesday, September 15th – Day 2 (B-A-D-C) of the schedule.
Tuesday is "Everyone Counts" day. Students are asked to wear clothing with numbers on it. There will be Bingo in the cafeteria at lunch. Student photos will continue to be taken throughout the day.
Wednesday, September 16th - Day 1 (A-B-C-D) of the schedule.
Wednesday is "Axemen and Axewomen Rule" day. During lunchtime, TOSH clothing will be modeled by students on the cafeteria stage and will be available for purchase from the TOSH bookstore. Students who remember to BYOB (bring your own banana) will be treated to a free ice-cream sundae in the cafeteria. Bananas will be on sale for $1.00 for those who forget theirs. This is the last day for student photos. The Scholastic Awards Assembly will take place at 9am in the gym. This assembly will recognize the Grade 11 and 12 students who had outstanding academic achievements in their Grade 10 and 11 years. Vocal Ensemble will begin rehearsals at 3:30 in the music room.

Thursday is "Dance Day." The first school dance of the year will be held in the cafeteria from 8-11pm. The theme is "Paparazzi", so come prepared to walk the red carpet. During the day, there will be a Dodgeball game in the gym at lunch.

Friday is "ER" day. Students are encouraged to wear green and gold clothing in order to show their school spirit and to bring money to help in the fight to end CancER. The annual Terry Fox Run will take place at the end of the day and Fear Fact-ER will take place on the stage at lunch. Peer Helper Training will be held in the Lecture Theatre.

Monday, September 7th - Labour Day, no classes.
Tuesday, September 8th - This is the first school day for all students. At approximately 9:00 a.m. all grade 10 students will assemble in the Cafeteria for an opening day address, regarding operating procedures, expectations, etc. Grade 11 and 12 students will proceed to their home room classes. Grade 11 and 12 students are responsible for finding their own home rooms. Home room lists are posted on the bulletin board outside the Main Office.
The morning will be composed of home room presentations and grade level assemblies in the Cafeteria. During the home room sessions, students will receive their time tables which include their courses, the teachers assigned to each course, and the location of each course. Students will also be required to fill out a variety of opening day information forms. Lockers will be issued during home rooms. Locker fees are part of an overall student fee of $25.00, which includes the cost of Student I.D.s, a locker rental fee, and graduation fees. A deposit of $5.00 for locks is included in the fee which is returned at the end of the year upon return of the student’s lock in good condition.
Afternoon classes will be shortened to accommodate all 4 classes which normally make up the entire day. This allows new students some time to locate their classes and meet their subject teachers for the first time. The shortened afternoon classes are approximately 30 minutes each.
Fall Sports Tryouts will begin as early as Tuesday. This includes ladies and men’s soccer, ladies’ field hockey, and ladies and men’s volleyball. All students wishing to attend tryouts should come prepared.
Wednesday, September 9th - Day 2 (B-A-D-C)This is the first full day of classes. Classes operate on a two day cycle with four classes per day. Day 1 operates as follows: Block A-B-C-D. Day 2 operates as follows: Block B-A-D-C. Block A and B always take place in the mornings. Block C and D always take place in the afternoons. Class time is 73 minutes per block. Extra time is allotted to the first class in the morning to allow for a 15 minute reading period.
Thursday, September 10th - Day 1 (A-B-C-D) The first Student Council meeting of the year will begin at 12 noon in the lecture theatre. Anyone wishing to become a member of Student Council is strongly encouraged to attend!
Friday, September 11th - Day 2 (B-A-D-C) Students and staff are invited to attend the first of many TOSH "Feel Good Fridays." This week’s "Feel Good Friday" will begin at 8:00am in the cafeteria where all those in attendance will be treated to a free pancake breakfast.

Welcome back to our news column. For those who are new, this is a weekly information article which runs throughout the school year. The purpose is to provide details on what is happening at Three Oaks. The column is featured on the Student Page every Saturday, along with other schools in the Western district.
Three Oaks has a dress code. The following are guidelines for what is considered inappropriate school attire: clothing or accessories associated with drugs, alcohol, violence, sex, obscenity, or discrimination. Short shorts or skirts, revealing necklines, exposed midriffs, or shoulderless shirts. Outer clothing that does not completely cover underclothes.
Three Oaks has a strict cell phone policy. The following are the guidelines: Cell phones are not to be used nor be visible/heard inside the Three Oaks buildings, during the school day (from the time of arrival until the 3:30 pm bell). This is understood to include class time as well as recesses and lunch period. The School Administration reserves the right, in special circumstances, to allow students to carry cell phones.

The following are the guidelines: Cell phones are not to be used nor be visible/heard inside the Three Oaks buildings, during the school day (from the time of arrival until the 3:30 pm bell). This is understood to include class time as well as recesses and lunch period. The School Administration reserves the right, in special circumstances, to allow students to carry cell phones.

In regards to ongoing concerns surrounding the H1N1 Flu Virus, the Western School Board in consultation with the PEI Medical Society, is doing its part to educate and inform staff, parents and students about proper measures to prevent the spread of this virus. We ask that parents do their part by reporting their child ’s absence to the school first thing in the morning. When doing so, please be specific as to why the child is absent, especially if the absence is due to influenza-like-illness. Influenza-like-illness (ILI) includes acute onset of respiratory symptoms with fever and cough and one or more of the following symptoms: sore throat, muscle aches, joint pain or weakness. Gastrointestinal symptoms may also be present and fever may not be prominent. If students are exhibiting these symptoms, we ask that they stay out of school until all they are symptom free.

Monday, June 22nd - This is Graduation Day at Three Oaks. At 9 a.m. all graduates are asked to assemble in their classrooms for a walk down to the gym as part of the graduation rehearsal. When everyone is seated in the gym, they will be briefed on a number of details regarding the upcoming evening. All graduates are urged to attend this very important rehearsal.
Following the rehearsal, home room and subject teachers are available in their classrooms to give out grade 12 report cards, transcripts, and exam papers. Graduates are then free for the remainder of the day to prepare themselves for the big night.
Graduation exercises begin at 7 p.m. Graduates are asked to be at the school and in their classrooms by 6 p.m. The following is the program: Processional by the Three Oaks Graduation Ensemble, Invocation, Salutation, Remarks by Principal - Duncan McKillop, Presentation of Diplomas and Awards, Guest Speaker - Emily Schurman, Presentation of Special Awards by Principal - Duncan McKillop, Valedictory by Geoff Kowalski, Recessional. A reception follows in the center of the school for graduates and invited guests.
Graduates have approximately one hour for picture taking, mingling, and getting changed. All SafeGrad participants must be in the 100 block by 11 p.m. to pick up registration pins and assemble in their classrooms for departure to New Glasgow. Graduates are reminded that each classroom represents a bus. When the maximum number is reached for that classroom (bus), the door will be closed
Buses will depart for New Glasgow at approximately 11:30 p.m. and arrive at approximately 12 midnight. The following is the schedule: Midnight to 1 a.m. - Food, snacks, pop. etc. for a very hungry crew upon arrival; 1 a.m. to 4:30 a.m. - Dance and karaoke upstairs and casino downstairs; 4:30 a.m. - departure to Sandspit; 6:30 a.m. - departure back to Three Oaks; 7 a.m. - 8 a.m. - breakfast at Three Oaks cafeteria.
Tuesday, June 23rd - A large portion of our staff attend Safe Grad with our students. They will be home recovering. A small number of staff will be cleaning up from graduation. The office will be open as normal.
Thursday, June 25th - Grade 10 and 11 report cards and exams will be distributed from 9 - 10:15 a.m. Teachers will be available in their classrooms to distribute these to parents and/or students.
Friday, June 26th - This day will be devoted to in-school planning for the new school year beginning in September.

Student athletes were recognized in their respective sports in categories which included most improved, best rookie, most valuable, coaches choice, etc. Female Athlete of the Year went to Cierra Gaudet, a grade 11 student who competed in soccer, basketball, cross country, badminton and track and field. Male Athlete of the Year went to Pat Thompson, a grade 12 student who competed in badminton, soccer and softball.
The Academic Award was won by Jaimee Gillis. Nancy Sinclair received the Athletic Alumni Award for her long time contribution to the athletic program. Nancy is the Transportation Supervisor for the Three Oaks family of schools.

Congratulations to the following teams for their provincial playoff performances: The AAA boys’ rugby team won gold, the A boys rugby team won gold, the AAA girls rugby team won bronze, the boys softball team won bronze, and the senior girls track and field tied with Westisle for gold.

Grade 12 students are responsible to view and verify the grad list posted on the bulletin board outside the office to verify the accuracy of their name and how it will be read on graduation night. Students should also check parent’s names.

Monday, June 1st - Day 2 (B-A-D-C) The special in the cafeteria at noon is spaghetti and garlic bread or chili and cheese nachos.
In sports, the track and field zone meet is scheduled for Evangeline. Local schools compete for the right to participate in the provincial meet on Saturday. The girls’ and boys’ provincial softball quarter finals are scheduled at the home of the highest place finishers.
Tuesday, June 2nd - Day 1 (A-B-C-D) The special in the cafeteria at noon is club wrap and salad or chinese dinner.
The Annual extra curricular awards assembly is scheduled for the gym during the morning. Grade 12 students are recognized for their outstanding contributions towards teams, clubs, and organizations during their three years at TOSH. Presentations will be made in two categories: The certificate level and the extra curricular pin level. Graduates have been recognized in this annual ceremony since the 1980's.
In sports, the A girls’ and A boys’ rugby championships are scheduled for the afternoon. The location was not available at the time of this printing.
The Three Oaks Minor Soccer program begins at 6:30 p.m.. Approximately 200 participants will take to the fields with 60+ student coaches and co-ordinators, each within their own colour co-ordinated t-shirts compliments of local sponsors. The program uses the fields surrounding Three Oaks.
Wednesday, June 3rd - Day 2 (B-A-D-C) The special in the cafeteria at noon is fries with the works.
In sports, the girls’ and boys’ softball championships are scheduled for Queen Elizabeth Park in Summerside beginning in the afternoon.
Thursday, June 4th - Day 1 (A-B-C-D) The special in the cafeteria at noon is roast turkey dinner or macaroni casserole.
The Family Place family resource centre, will host lunch and learn sessions for pregnant and parenting students in the school. They are invited to join Lori Clarke each Thursday as she’ll share lunch and information on topics such as; pre-natal care, labour, delivery, and parenting. The group meets each Thursday in the Three Oaks conference room at noon.
In sports, the AAA girls’ and AAA boys’ rugby championships are scheduled for the afternoon. The location was not available at the time of this printing.

The purpose is to help students meet some of the challenges they must face and help make positive choices in their lives. The topic for this session is "Impaired Driving."

Air Craft Maintenance at Three Oaks:
This course offers skills which are transferable to many sectors of the workplace including workplace safety, blueprint reading, use and care of basic hand tools and precision measuring. Specific training includes basic theory of flight, sheet metal work, aircraft maintenance, and assembly of basic electronic kits. This is an open course with no pre-requisites.

The Three Oaks Senior Concert Band departs for Ottawa. During their visit, they will be performing concerts at two schools plus participating in the Rhythms International Music Festival. They will also have the opportunity to hear the National Arts Centre Orchestra and visit many local attractions including the National War Museum, the Museum of Civilization, The Royal Canadian Mint, and Parliament Hill. They return on Monday, April 27th.

This course focuses on examining career direction, making choices, exploring the workplace, and developing employability skills. The course develops a foundation for job occupation and career planning. The Motor Vehicle Repair Program is a pre-apprentice program designed to provide the student with a variety of skills and technical knowledge as an apprentice in field.

(TIAPEI) in partnership with East Prince Youth Development is hosting the Summerside Job Fair to be held at the Credit Union Place from 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. This is an opportunity for students to meet with potential employers.
The Family Place family resource centre, will host lunch and learn sessions for the pregnant and parenting students in the school. They are invited to join Lori Clarke each Thursday as she’ll share lunch and information on topics such as; pre-natal care, labour, delivery, and parenting. The group meets each Thursday in the Three Oaks conference room at noon.
Parent-teacher interviews are scheduled for the evening. Parents are provided with the opportunity for private interviews with each subject teacher. These interviews are not automatic. Request forms were sent home with students.

A big thank you to all the families for their help and support of the band students.
Noteworthy Items:
Congratulations to both concert bands who performed very well at Band Days recently. The comments from the two adjudicators were very positive.
Progress reports were handed out recently in home room. If parents have not seen these reports, they should ask.
A general question and answer session will take place for any grade 12 students who will be attending UPEI in September on Wednesday, April 8th at 2 p.m. in the Lecture Theatre. After the general session, representatives are willing to meet with students and/or parents to answer university questions, course/credit selections, etc. Please indicate if you would like to meet individually with a representative by dropping into Student Services to sign up. All students are encouraged to meet with an advisor to discuss course options and be eligible for early registration.
Woodworking at TOSH:
Woodworking Technology is open to Grade 10 and 11 students. This course introduces students to fundamental woodworking techniques through the safe use of power tools and equipment. Students will put their knowledge into practical use as they construct several assigned projects.
A follow-up to this course is Furniture Design and Construction designed only for those students who have demonstrated a keen interest and desire to develop their skills further. Students will be required to show a high degree of expertise as they construct two assigned projects. Both of these courses are single credit.

A "Positive Choices" presentation will take place in the Lecture Theatre. Three Oaks is hosting a number of these sessions over the course of the year. The purpose is to help students meet some of the challenges they must face and help make positive choices in their lives. The topic for this session is "The Relationship between Intimacy and Sexual Behavior." The presenter is Randall Fletcher, a Sexual Deviant Specialist who works with the Attorney General’s Office of P.E.I.

Late Policy:
Three Oaks has introduced a new late policy scheduled to begin the first day of the second semester. The following is the policy:
A "Late" is defined as entering a class following the late bell or being unprepared for class and unable to return with the necessary materials before the second bell which begins class (late bell). A "late" is excused if a note is presented regarding a special appointment or a school sponsored activity.
If a student shows up late, the subject teach will inform them they are late and record it. When a student reaches their 3rd late, the student will be assigned a 10 minute detention with the subject teacher. If a 4th, 5th or 6th late should occur, the student will be assigned a 30 minute detention to be served at lunchtime in the detention room. For each late after 6, a student will be assigned a one hour detention to be served over two lunch hours in the detention room.
Students must bring material with them to work on to be admitted to the detention room. There will be no food or drink allowed in the detention room.
Minor Basketball:
Three Oaks Minor Basketball is scheduled to begin Tuesday, March 24th at 6:30 p.m. Instruction and games take place at Parkside and Three Oaks. Team lists will be printed in the Journal.

www.careercruising.com) is a new web based career exploration program for grades 7 - 12. We encourage parents to use this resource with their sons/daughters at home. Simply go to the website and enter the username and password for Three Oaks (Three Oaks, Axemen). Students must first contact Mrs. Reeves, Mr. Donovan or Mrs. Keough to acquire a personal log in and password to access their personal profile.
Career Cruising has been designed with one goal in mind: To help students plan their futures. Some of the assessment tools include: matching interests and skills to careers, descriptions of hundreds of careers, interviews of people in careers, options for searching, links between education and careers, information on post secondary education and other options.
With these type of assessment tools, profiles, and post secondary information, parents and students can easily move through the career exploration and planning process.
Late Policy:
Three Oaks has introduced a new late policy scheduled to begin the first day of the second semester. The following is the policy:
A "Late" is defined as entering a class following the late bell or being unprepared for class and unable to return with the necessary materials before the second bell which begins class (late bell). A "late" is excused if a note is presented regarding a special appointment or a school sponsored activity.
If a student shows up late, the subject teach will inform them they are late and record it. When a student reaches their 3rd late, the student will be assigned a 10 minute detention with the subject teacher. If a 4th, 5th or 6th late should occur, the student will be assigned a 30 minute detention to be served at lunchtime in the detention room. For each late after 6, a student will be assigned a one hour detention to be served over two lunch hours in the detention room.
Students must bring material with them to work on to be admitted to the detention room. There will be no food or drink allowed in the detention room.
Minor Basketball:
Three Oaks Minor Basketball is scheduled to begin Tuesday, March 24th at 6:30 p.m. Instruction and games take place at Parkside and Three Oaks. Team lists will be printed in the Journal.

This course is offered to students at the grade 10 and 11 levels. The course introduces students to some of the major issues facing the environment. Where possible, students will become aware of employment opportunities available. There are no pre-requirements regarding registration for this course.

The winter season is here. The following information is very important regarding school cancellations. If schools are to be cancelled, parents will be notified by radio announcements on local stations. In cases where a decision cannot be reached by 7 a.m., a one hour delay will be announced. A further announcement indicating the starting time, or cancellation, will take place by 8 a.m. Under some circumstances, it may be necessary to close schools during the school day. Parents are asked to make the necessary arrangements for your son or daughter should this type of closure occur.
If extreme weather conditions might occur unexpectedly, students may be required to remain at school beyond their normal dismissal time unless picked up by a parent or designate. Announcements will be made on all radio stations if this occurs.

The winter season is here and with it comes some questionable mornings regarding weather and school closures. Due to the size of the Western School Board, it may be necessary to delay or close all schools or some of the schools. When a partial delay or closure is called, it will be done on the basis of family of schools. The Three Oaks family of schools are composed of: Three Oaks Senior High, Summerside Intermediate, Athena Consolidated, Miscouche Consolidated, Elm Street Elementary, Greenfield Elementary, and Parkside Elementary.
There are three other families of schools. They are: The Kinkora Family, The Kensington Family, and the Westisle Family.

A parent information session on advanced placement is scheduled for the MacNeill Learning Centre beginning at 6 p.m.
A Drug Education Session is scheduled for the Lecture Theatre at 7 p.m. Cpl. Reg Campbell from "L" Division of the RCMP will speak to parents and youth regarding drug use and abuse. Topics covered will include prescription drug use among teens, crystal meth, estacy and various other drugs. Everyone is welcome.

The Explore Program 2009 offers students an opportunity to live an exciting linguistic and cultural experience in a Francophone institution of their choice for five weeks during the summer session or spring session for post secondary students (current graduates). Late Policy:
Three Oaks has introduced a new late policy scheduled to begin the first day of the second semester. The following is the policy:
A "Late" is defined as entering a class following the late bell or being unprepared for class and unable to return with the necessary materials before the second bell which begins class (late bell). A "late" is excused if a note is presented regarding a special appointment or a school sponsored activity.
If a student shows up late, the subject teach will inform them they are late and record it. When a student reaches their 3rd late, the student will be assigned a 10 minute detention with the subject teacher. If a 4th, 5th or 6th late should occur, the student will be assigned a 30 minute detention to be served at lunchtime in the detention room. For each late after 6, a student will be assigned a one hour detention to be served over two lunch hours in the detention room.
Students must bring material with them to work on to be admitted to the detention room. There will be no food or drink allowed in the detention room.

A parent information session on advanced placement is scheduled for the MacNeill Learning Centre beginning at 6 p.m.
A Drug Education Session is scheduled for the Lecture Theatre at 7 p.m. Cpl. Reg Campbell from "L" Division of the RCMP will speak to parents and youth regarding drug use and abuse. Topics covered will include prescription drug use among teens, crystal meth, estacy and various other drugs. Everyone is welcome.

A "Positive Choices" presentation will take place in the Lecture Theatre. Three Oaks is hosting a number of these sessions over the course of the year. The purpose is to help students meet some of the challenges they must face and help make positive choices in their lives. The topic for this session is "Registration."

The Family Place family resource centre, will host lunch and learn sessions for the pregnant and parenting students in the school. They are invited to join Lori Clarke each Thursday as she’ll share lunch and information on topics such as; pre-natal care, labour, delivery, and parenting. The group meets each Thursday in the Three Oaks conference room at noon.
The Tourism Industry Association of P.E.I. (TIAPEI), in partnership with Holland College, will host the 2009 Tourism Employment Showcase at the Tourism and Culinary Centre in Charlottetown. The showcase provides employers with the opportunity to recruit, interview, and hire all under one roof.

Tuesday, February 10th - Day 2 (B-A-D-C) The special in the cafeteria at noon is club wrap and salad or spaghetti.

Athena Consolidated is hosting an information night for parents titled "Numbers Night". Bill MacIntyre is the English Math and Science specialist for grades 1 - 6 with the Department of Education. Bill will speak about the important skills and concepts our children need to develop with respect to numbers. Parents will learn how to help our children to be successful at: counting and grouping, learning basic facts and developing mental math skills. The session begins at 7 p.m.

Players will compete only against others in the same grade. Prizes are awarded for the top 3 in each grade. The winner in each grade qualifies for the National championship which takes place in Toronto on May 17th and 18th. For more information, contact tournament director, Fred McKim at 894-8713.
Congratulations to Kyle Baillie who travelled to Ottawa recently to the Terry Fox Centre as part of the Encounters with Canada Program. Encounters with Canada is an annual exchange involving students and teachers from across Canada. Conferences, workshops, and exterior visits are creatively designed for the interactive program. The theme for Kyle’s visit was Fitness.

Monday, February 2nd - This is semester turn around day, no classes. Teachers will use this time for marking end of semester exams and preparation for the start up of Semester Two courses.
Tuesday, February 3rd - End of semester exams continue. All block D classes write during the morning.
Exams begins at 9 a.m.
